What are Dental Implants?

Unlike removable options such as dentures, dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth. The titanium implant fixture is designed to fuse with your jawbone and take the place of the natural tooth root. This not only enhances your smile, but stimulates healthy jawbone growth as well. Once the fixture is topped with an abutment and restoration, you can enjoy all the benefits of a stunning smile. Depending on your needs, the restoration can range from a single procelain crown to full-arch dentures.

What is the Dental Implant Process?

The dental implant process typically takes place over several months, allowing plenty of time between steps for your body to fully heal. The first step is a consultation with Dr. Silvoy, where he’ll develop a customized treatment plan to fit your specific needs. Once he determines you’re ready, he’ll place the implant and protect the surgical area to begin the healing process. After your jaw has fully healed, you can return to our office for your final restoration.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a good choice for replacing missing teeth, but not everyone is an immediate candidate. During your consultation, Dr. Silvoy will thoroughly examine your oral health to determine if you need any supplemental procedures to prepare your mouth for implants.

Consequences of Missing Teeth

Missing teeth can stop you from smiling, but did you know that they can also cause other dental issues? The consequences of missing teeth range from gum disease to bone deterioration, among many other health issues. Replacing missing teeth with dental implants as soon as possible can help protect your oral health and prevent long-term issues, as well as give you a smile you’ll want to show off.

Treatment Options Compared

We offer several dental implant solutions for restoring your smile. Depending on how many teeth you need to replace and the condition of your oral health, Dr. Silvoy can advise you on the best treatment plan that fits your case.

Implant Dentures

Traditional dentures have many downsides that make wearing them uncomfortable and inconvenient, but using dental implants to secure dentures eliminates many of these issues. Implant dentures offer a secure, stable, and more cost-effective approach than other tooth replacement options, making them a great solution for patients who have lost most or all of their teeth.

Same Day (Immediate Load) Dental Implants

Want to avoid living with a gap in your smile while you recover from dental implant surgery? In some cases, Dr. Silvoy can attach a temporary crown to your dental implant the same day it’s placed, so you can leave your appointment with a fully restored smile. Same day dental implants are ideal for patients who are missing a single tooth and have otherwise excellent oral health.

How painful is it to get implants?

Dr. Silvoy and our entire team work tirelessly to make all dental treatments as comfortable as possible. We offer nitrous oxide to help keep you relaxed during your treatment, and Dr. Silvoy will prescribe pain medication to help manage any discomfort you may experience as you recover from your surgery.

How long does the implant process take?

The length of the dental implant process will depend on your individual case, including your oral health and the number of teeth that you’re replacing. Another factor that can affect your treatment time is the need for any preliminary procedures, such as periodontal treatment or bone grafting, to help prepare your mouth for implant placement. During your initial consultation, Dr. Silvoy will thoroughly examine your mouth and establish a treatment timeline based on your individual needs.

Will gum disease affect my dental implants?

The health of your mouth has a direct impact on the success of your dental implants, and any existing gum disease will need to be resolved before a dental implant can be placed. This ensures your gums are able to provide a strong, healthy foundation for your dental implants. If you have gum disease, Dr. Silvoy offers periodontal treatment using state-of-the-art lasers to eliminate this condition and restore your oral health before undergoing implant surgery.

Can implants help me if I have dentures?

Dr. Silvoy can place multiple dental implants to secure a set of partial or full dentures, making them more comfortable and stable to wear. Patients who have been wearing dentures for a long time are likely to have experienced some bone loss due to lack of teeth. During your consultation, Dr. Silvoy will determine if you need to undergo a bone grafting procedure to prepare your jawbone for implant placement.

If I have a tooth extracted, can I have an implant placed the same day?

In many cases, the answer is yes. At our practice, we have the technology to complete the entire implant dentistry process in-house, from the planning stage to the fabrication and placement of the implant. However, not every patient has the necessary bone density or gum health to immediately support an implant. Dr. Silvoy will determine if you need a preparatory procedure, such as periodontal treatment or bone grafting, before the implant can be placed.

How long does recovery take after dental implant placement?

Although recovery can vary by patient, we usually recommend staying home from work the day after surgery. It’s important to take it easy for several days following your procedure to allow swelling and soreness to ease. We also recommend refraining from strenuous activities, eating hard foods, and smoking so that your body can fully heal.

What are my financing options for dental implants?

We offer several financing and payment options to make your treatment more affordable, including our very own Better Smiles Savings Plan that offers a 20% discount on dental implants. We also accept CareCredit®, a third-party financer that allows you to pay for your procedures over time, in addition to most major dental insurance providers.
